This year will be remembered for a slew of reasons, but one of the most defining moments will be the November election—and that notion isn’t lost on some of the nation’s most influential artists. More than 70 artists, including Patti Smith, Sebastian Kim and Mark Handforth, contributed pieces to Plan Your Vote, a nonpartisan initiative to get the word out about voting, creating a strong visual vocabulary for the public. Recognizing the role museums have historically played as sites of civic engagement and dialogue, Plan Your Vote created a national alliance of art institutions, which includes the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, Pérez Art Museum Miami and the Norton Museum of Art, to bolster the database’s public visibility and implementation on social media. “It is an honor to be working with a talented group of artists, as well as museums, arts organizations and institutional nonprofits, to help tell the story of what it means to vote and why it is so important to have your voice heard,” says Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey. planyourvote.org
