How does it feel to represent South Florida in one of the world’s most renowned dance companies?
I feel like I’m carrying some type of baton from the South Florida dancers who have come before me. So in that sense, it’s exciting, but at the same time I feel a little bit of responsibility for the young artists who are training there now.
What has been your favorite piece to perform?
I don’t like to go on stage and feel like I’m dancing; I enjoy pieces that disguise my work and push pass that technique, like my solo for “Inside,” choreographed by Robert Battle, or “Black Milk” by Ohad Naharin. Both pieces are very real and very grounded, and they have a theatrical place where you can take away your dancer self and inject your human self.
If you had to choose one word to describe your journey as a dancer, what would it be?
Fortunate.
