Available for public viewing on Thursday, September 15, Santiago’s exhibit Photosynthesis V.1 will showcase compositions that allow hopeful, inspiring, and dream-like moments that catch the interaction and motion in a still frame. Specifically handpicked by León, Santiago’s work is recognized for his non-commercial artwork that tells the story and interprets the essence and aspirations of the people and community that surrounds him. Composed of small and large-scale pieces, Photosynthesis V.1 explores shape and color as light travels through deconstructed landscapes and portraits. The energy and movement in the artworks represent the growth and transformation of Santiago’s interactions with the spaces he moves through, and the people he shares moments with.
“We’re excited to welcome our second artist in residence Muta Santiago to The Confidante Miami Beach, furthering the hotel’s commitment to celebrate Miami culture and create memorable, vibrant experiences for our guests and community,” said Lanette Torres, Director of Commercial Services.
Santiago is a POC Latino-American visual artist and muralist who currently resides in Miami, Florida. He’s self-taught and began his career through graffiti in the streets of Miami where he’s practiced his craft for over 10 years after branching out into larger-scale commercial and residential projects. With his artwork, Santiago contributes to various public and cultural movements throughout North America, as well as uses the power and impact of street art/murals to make a change. Through the use of natural and organic forms, and a mix of curated colors from places of his heritage, including Panama and Puerto Rico, Santiago strives to find a middle ground of exploring his interactions with them.
Guests can scan a QR code at each piece of artwork to purchase the artwork on display, with proceeds benefiting the featured artist. A pop-up shop selling León and Santiago’s merchandise, and artwork will also be available at the hotel.
Throughout the residency, guests will have the opportunity to view one more exclusive exhibition curated by León from November-December, showcasing the artwork by renowned artist Funqest. Access to the residency is complimentary for hotel guests, visitors and locals but hotel guests must reserve their space on the tour upon arrival or by contacting concierge@theconfidantehotel.
